The DA wants to make an example of him. That is the reason he is facing the charges he is facing.

    Who has not thought of this after pulling a non starting mower, chainsaw, or weedwacker?

    I agree. He didn't hurt anyone so he took it out on his lawn mower instead. Fine him and put him in jail??? Why??? He took his aggression out on an inanimate object and got some satisfaction. He could of beat his wife instead. This is ridiculous and I agree with Karin. We can put people like this away for stupid stuff but let the murderers and rapists go free because of a "technicality." Leave this guy alone and go after the real problems in society.

      I have always wanted to shoot a few of my lawn mowers and a few outboard motors too. This man doesn't deserve a prison sentence. He deserves a medal.

      "Keith Walendowski, 56, was charged with felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed."

      Had he used a legally liscensed weapon, the charges and penalties would be far less.

      It is highly illegal to have a weapon tht has been "shortened", and the peanlties he is facing is because of this, the disorderly conduct while armed is just BS, "charge stacking".

      I can't believe that the charge of "illegal discharge of a weapon" is not included in this story, so has it just been left out by the reporter/story writer, or was he not charged with it. I have never heard of any where in this country that does not have this as a law.

        Brian,
        Unless he lived in the city limits, there probably is not an "illegal discharge of a weapon law". There isnt one where I live. I can go out in my yard and shoot all day long if I want to as long as I am not shooting across my property onto someone elses.

          I live out in the country and there is always someone shooting something. People need to get over it.

          Maybe if he was a NRA member he could have said it was in self defense.

                It's a felony to shoot a gun in the city limits of Louisville, unless it is self defense, or at a shooting range. Of course I do not know the laws in Wisconsin. Also, if homes are near by, bullets can backfire off metal objects.
                More than likely he will pay a small fine.

                  Jonathan this is how conservative types act. They feel that the government has the right to dictate every aspect of a person's life including the shooting of his own lawn mower.

                    I do believe this comment is for me. Let tell you my stance. Let's completely scratch all the laws we enacted that date back to the 70's.

                    Take those smoking bans and shove them high up someones... { I smoke, its legal, I pay hefty taxes, give me a place to smoke}

                    Take those seatbelt laws and wrap a politician in one{ I use mine, but its a choice,should not a law}

                    Hate Crime Laws Good Bye

                    End Homeland Security Good Bye

                    All the cameras on the Highways, Cites, should be shot out

                    I also tend to be a strong believer in putting the 10 Commandments back on the School Walls OF America

                    Lets be smart about the illegal Immigration and Put FEMA to use, after all, it is an emergency.

                    Good Bye Nafta

                    Let's be smart about the Drug Problems and the laws we have, maybe there is a better way. They may be drug users however they are people, our people. The current laws we have now are only aiding the probem.

                    Good Bye UN

                    Oh, last but not least, No MORE AMERICAN LAND OR BUSINESSES FOR SALE TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES!!!

                    I could care less if this guy wants to shoot at objects. I happen to live in a subdivision where the neighbors are an ear shot away. Sounds to me like this guy lives in a similar area since a lady saw him do this. Maybe she was concerned for her safety or this mans well being.

                    I had no idea is was a felony to shoot a gun in Louisville, but when my neighbor got arrested for shooting at squirrels in his backyard the police told me it was a felony.
                    Oh, by the way, I did not call the police, he was shooting his AK-47 at a squirrel in a trap at 3:00 am in the morning, the old lady next to him called the police. Woke the whole neighborhood up.

                        Uhm, no Merle. I do believe the "liberals" are just as guilty of trying to make us live the way they want us to. For instance, the ban on fast-food restaurants in South L.A. is an example of the "liberal" way of running our lives for us.

                        I can understand frustration and I have been tempted myself to beat a lawnmower with a sledge a time or two. It sounds as if he's in more trouble for having a short-barreled (sawn-off?) shotgun or rifle than he is for blasting a lawnmower in his yard. It's a felony to have a shotgun with a barrel of less than 18" or a rifle with a barrel of less than 16" without the Class III NFA federal license. I don't know what sort of local ordinances there might be in place about firing a firearm in that area, but a richochet into a neighbor's house could have been a real possibility.

                        On the other hand, I've been tempted to beat a lawnmower with a sledgehammer more than once so I know how he feels.

                              Oh yeah wildbill I seem to remember it wasn't too Long ago when Reagan wanted a national ID card issued to everyone. Conservatives want to regulate everything that goes on including what we do in the privacy of our own homes. How can you say that conservatives don't want to regulate every aspect of a person's private life?

                              I support the right of a man to shoot his his own lawn mower and I am a bleeding heart liberal.

                                I'm talking about conservatives like Barry Goldwater, not George Bush. Bush has used the veto less than any President in my lifetime, and that damn sure doesn't qualify him as a conservative. And we can all see were its got us.
                                As for regulating everything you do. I think if you compare the legislative record of Barry Goldwater( a true conservative) against that of Teddy Kennedy ( a true liberal), i think you'll find Teddy has his big nose in your life a helluva lot more than Barry.
                                And i don't think we need to broach the subject of which had his hand deeper in your pockets!

                                        The punishment is too harsh. The guy just got frustrated, but he didn't hurt anybody. Somebody in power got carried away. This just sets a precedent for more micromanagement of your lives by elitists who think they are qualified to tell you how to life from womb to tomb.
